The Charlotte region is a great place to live and work!

There has been significant growth in recent decades and our transit needs continue to evolve. We need an updated transit system plan to make sure we are moving forward – and we need to know where you want to go so CATS has a transit system that works for the community!

Learn more about the key indicators, including growth and demographic trends, that highlight the need for transportation improvements as shown in the CRTPO 2055 Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

Mecklenburg County is Growing

Mecklenburg County Population Growth text description below

Mecklenburg County is expecting to grow by more than 725,000 residents by 2055. The County's population has been growing: 1995 with 563k, 2005 with 799k, 2015 with 1.03M, today we have 1.2M. Projected population for years: 2025 with 1.3M, 2035 with 1.5M, 2024 with 1.8M, and 2055 with +2M people.

These maps highlight Mecklenburg County's rapid growth, with significant increases in both population and job opportunities. To support this growth, we must consider our transit infrastructure. As our community expands, traffic congestion worsens, making it more critical than ever to focus on our transit solutions.
